Humayun’s Tomb in Dehli

Christian Lybeck

Ink, 2020

My project is called Humayun’s Tomb in Dehli, and I used ink as my medium. I decided to use Humayun’s Tomb as the image for my project because I felt it was architecturally different from all of the other possible buildings, I could have chosen to draw also i chose this because I love a challenge. Humayun’s Tomb is the first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent. It inspired many major architectural innovations and resulted in the construction of the Taj Mahal.

I believe that my ink drawing of Humayun’s Tomb accurately completes the assignment as i used the proper medium, ruler, and implemented the proper elements and principles to accurately portray the building. The elements i displayed in this project are value which I demonstrated by the darkness and lightness as well as lines. Line is defined by a point moving in space. I also feel I accurately displayed the principle of texture as demonstrated by my implementation of diagonal, cross hatching as well as lines in this project.

Faded

In the project “Faded” I used the medium oil paints. Using a creative mix of colors like purples, whites, and greys; the project itself contains a purple sky with a few clouds, a purple mountain with snow on the top, and three snowmen living they’re happy lives at the bottom.

Throughout the background you can see a faint outline of my cactus which was my first attempt at the project. I was confused and did the project incorrectly the first time however I believe it added an amazing detail in the background of my new project. Also that’s where the name for my project came from.

Picasso’s Protégé

 Chris Lybeck

 Acrylic Paint/2023

The name of my final art project is Picasso’s Protégé. I created this piece of art using Acrylic as my medium. My final art project has so many different shapes and colors, a lot like my imagination. So much is always running through my head, whether it’s about my future or my past. In this piece of art I’m trying to captivate that feeling of eccentric, unknown colors from the future, as well as the more relaxing colors from a known past. If we allow ourselves to be too tied up in our past, or too focused on our future, it can cause us to mess up and lose sight of what’s right in front of us.

As you could probably tell by the name of my final art project. Pablo Picasso inspired me to create my project. One of Picasso’s most famous styles is his abstract art style. He never created the same piece twice and brought a whole new look to the term “original” in the art world. A lot of artists were creating realist pieces at the time so Picassos pieces were a very unique twist to the typical art culture. I like to think my piece of art captures that same aspect of unique and creative looks that he used so many ways. What I tried to accomplish in my project was creating a completely unique and interesting. I essentially was using my inner Picasso and trying to create my own piece of abstract art.

Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer who spent most of his adult life in France. He was a child prodigy who first started painting when he was 9yrs old. He was born to father Don Jose Ruiz y Blasco and mother Maria Picasso y Lopez. His father was an artist in his own right mainly painting birds and big game animals. He also taught art classes. He started schooling his son when he was 7 and found he was a very adept pupil. By the time he was 13 his artist expertise had far surpassed his fathers.  As Picasso progressed in his life he ended up creating over 50,000 pieces of art. In 1895, when Picasso was 14 years old, his family moved to Barcelona, Spain, where he quickly applied to the city's prestigious School of Fine Arts. Although the school typically only accepted students several years his senior, Picasso's entrance exam was so extraordinary that he was granted an exception and admitted. After sometime, Picasso developed a relationship with the much younger art student Francoise Gilot. Together, they produced a son, Claude, in 1947, and a daughter Paloma, in 1949. Their relationship was doomed like so many of Picasso’s previous relationships however, due to his abuse. In 1961 at 79, Picasso married his second and last wife, 27yr old Jacqueline Roque. She proved to be one if his career’s greatest inspirations. Picasso painted 70 portraits of her during the final 17 years he was alive.

The Flame Child

Christian Lybeck

Graphite,2020

My project is named The Flame Child, and I used graphite as my medium. I wanted to portray the elegance, creativity, and unpredictability of fire. I relate a lot to my self portrait in appearance of course but I also can be very unpredictable just like the fire.

The elements that I displayed in this self portrait are value as demonstrated by the darkness and lightness as well as lines. Line is defined by a point moving in space. I also feel that I accurately displayed the principle of emphasis on the fire background. I did this by combining the different layers of the fire which stressed the difference between those heat elements.

Cultivating Culvers

Chris Lybeck

3/10/23

In the project “Cultivating Culvers” I used the mediums watercolor, and Pen & Ink. Using a creative mix of colors like browns, whites, blues, and greys; the project itself contains a massive culvers building with a 2 point perspective with 2 terribly far vanishing points. The elements I used are lines and cross hatching. I used lines to create the outline of the building and used cross hatching to give the bricks a realistic effect.

I chose to draw culvers because; not only is it a good restaurant, but that’s where I met up with my friend from base that I haven’t seen in years. Pen & Ink as a medium isn’t as hard as some people may think. My previous Pen & Ink project was submitted into an art show and won first place in the corresponding category. Hopefully I can do the same thing for this class.
